Family Resource and Network Support (FRANS Inc) is a community organisation in Sydney’s inner west. It is now call “Participate Australia“. It supports about 500 people with an intellectual or physical disability (and their carers) to live active lives in the community.
This project is for teenagers and young adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities who want to live as independently as possible. Financial management skills are an essential part of that.
The project involved developing print and ipad-based course materials, training staff, running the course and practical activities with 50 young adults, and sharing the program with other organisations.
A project and evaluation report is available here. The evaluation shows the program was effective in increasing financial literacy.
The teaching materials are available via the Participate Australia website, for others to use.
