The Noosa Library Service has provided information and learning services to the Noosa community since 1973. The service promotes a socially inclusive community by providing a trusted space for those seeking to improve their literacy skills.
Noosa extended its Adult Literacy Program to include day-to-day financial issues as topics for learning.
To ensure quality, the program provided accredited tutor training to 12 volunteers. Tutors undertook training in both adult literacy tutoring and financial literacy modules. The tutors delivered over 5,000 hours of individualised one-on-one tutor training and mentorship in language, literacy and numeracy.
This program included an evaluation to measure the outcomes for participants. The program was found to have improved confidence and understanding of money issues for most participants, and helped them make more informed financial decisions. The evaluation report by Ellen Vasiliauskas of d-sipher is available here.
